Running a successful band program is an expensive endeavor, and while we do plenty of fundraising, there are no guarantees as to how much money those efforts will generate. Band fees cover the absolute bare minimum we need to run the program.

Band Fees are used to cover a wide variety of expenses, including:
concert coaches
leadership camps
awards banquet
pep band shirts and shorts
logistical expenses
insurance, legal and accounting fees
props
equipment
fuel
uniform expenses
postage
bank service fees
instruments
transportation
marching show music and drill purchases
music copyright fees
competition entry fees
-
Students will receive credit toward their band fees for participation in certain fundraisers at the discretion of the band directors.

Very short answer: yes.
Full explanation: no, these exact items are not required, however, it is incredibly tough to find appropriate shoes and gloves otherwise. Shoes must have laces, be entirely black- including soles- and allow for the roll step used in marching bands. Gloves must be long enough to extend past the wrist and into the sleeve of the uniform.
Color Guard shoes and gloves are equally hard to find.

Marching Band is a very physical activity (one could argue its a sport!), and because of this, the NMAA requires students to have a physical on file with the Band Director in case of injury.
-
Students can see any medical provider within the state of New Mexico. They need to take this form with them, and have the provider fill it out.
Additionally, several medical clinics throughout Los Lunas offer free or reduced-cost physicals each summer for students who participate in activities or sports. Information on these clinics will be released as it is received.
